Week 10 Post 2

Today was an interesting day that let me explore new things and tools. I thought that in my last week there would not be anything new but, apparently, I was wrong. Since last time I was not able to fix my interpolation problem yet, so I tried to see where in the code I was going wrong and what resources other people suggested on Stackoverflow and other platforms. The problem is with my NumPy arrays and the distortion of the differences in the range of the values. I tried to implement various solutions, and none of them worked. None of the CS classes that I took were teaching machine learning or AI, so the situation became more overwhelming for me because I wanted to finish the classification problem before leaving Purdue. So, I tried to ask people in the lab, and there was another undergraduate intern who wanted to help. I was amazed by the knowledge of that person, and he is only a sophomore in his undergraduate degree. The way he thinks fascinated me because his idea of understanding the problem was much different from mine. He saw the problem from a mathematical point of view as functions, which is a much deeper reflection of the problem with NumPy arrays. He tried to explain to me his vision, and I understood everything. It felt like I was in a math class, and he was an excellent teacher who successfully explained the problem to me; however, even with him, we were not able to find a proper solution. Although the solution was not found, I felt so inspired to study more and learn more so that in the future, I could be the one helping out other people. I believe that such inspiration came to me in the form of a passion for teaching. I am not quite sure yet, but since I am planning to go into academia anyway, I might become a professor one day. Of course, it will not be an easy path, but I am sure it will be rewarding. It is funny to me that such a passion for teaching and explaining came to me not from a professor but from a fellow intern who is also an undergraduate student. Perhaps, such meaningful yet unexpected occasions have a purpose, and the purpose was for me to see myself now and myself in the future. I have so much to learn and explore in my career path and so many ways to go, and I believe that all of them will bring me to success. It fascinates me to continue my journey, and I cannot wait to experience more on my path to academia.
