Week 2 Post 1
I am happy to announce that I have finally started working on the Arms, specifically on the coding part. I have been waiting for it for a long time. Until today, I was assigned many readings and resources that I needed to get to know better, which was still a great way to learn a lot of valuable and meaningful theories and concepts. Throughout that period, I learned about computer vision, image processing, YOLO, basic image operations, object detection, a little bit of PyTorch, and different kinds of learning used for robots' learning. Although such a theoretical approach enhanced my knowledge and led me to a deeper level of understanding of all the concepts, I still did not have a chance to get involved in the actual process of the development of AI, which bothered me. It felt like I was worried that I was not learning enough because all I did was listen to lectures, read research articles, and watch tutorials. However, now I am delighted to share the news of getting into practical issues of my job. Today I was able to get to know open CV, which was new to me. As a software library, open CV lets me manipulate the images and videos in various ways that I could not even think about before I started using it. I was able to practice my coding skills by working with the library using Python. The amount of excitement that I had when working with an open CV is not something that I could easily describe. The hours flew by fast, and I am more than excited to continue progressing in my experience and knowledge in computer vision tomorrow. What I was able to accomplish was scaling and rotating images, creating custom interfaces, filtering, and manipulating pixels, and I even created my own drawing app, which was not a big deal because I followed the tutorial for that one. I believe my today's progress is only the beginning of my journey of improving the hand gesture recognition aspect of the Arms. I can already clearly see how I will be able to apply all of my knowledge and experience with robotics to building even better innovative and intelligent machines that could contribute to the ease of people's daily routines. Personally, I realized that that is my passion and that I would work hard to achieve my goals in robotics for a better and easier future for all people.
